Selective mining refers to a mining technique where specific ore bodies or mineral deposits are targeted for extraction, rather than extracting and processing all available materials from a mining site, then wasting out of specification material after processing. This process involves making determination in the pit or underground as to where the soon to be extracted material will be sent, processing plant or waste dump, as opposed to processing, then wasting out of specification product. This approach is often employed to optimize resource utilization, reduce waste, and minimize environmental impact.
Selective mining aims to maximize the recovery of valuable well blended resources while minimizing the extraction and processing of waste material. This improves the overall efficiency of the mining operation and reduces the environmental impact associated with the disposal of off specification products.
